Make The Doors In Your Home Look More Elegant With Picture Frame Moulding

Blog

If you want to improve the look of your home without having to spend a fortune to do so, consider upgrading the doors in your home. There are many people who do not realize the huge impact beautiful doors can have on their home. The following guide walks you through the process of transforming a plain door into a stylish decorative piece.

Measure the Door You Want to Replace

First, measure the door that you want to replace. You want to be sure to measure the door because you need to purchase a door that is the exact same size as the door you want to replace so that it can fit into your door frame perfectly.

Purchase a Wooden Door

Go to a home improvement store and purchase a lightweight, wooden door, so that you can easily move it around on your own. Be sure to measure the door to ensure that it will fit into the door frame perfectly.

Purchase Picture Frame Moulding

While you're at the home improvement store, you need to purchase picture frame moulding. Picture frame moulding is moulding that is already assembled and that comes in many different styles and designs. Be sure to measure the moulding to make sure that it will fit well on the door. You can use a large frame or use a few smaller frames of the moulding to create a detailed design on the door.

Attach the Moulding

Lay the new door flat on the ground. Lay out the moulding and arrange it however you feel it looks the best on the door. If you are making an intricate design, be sure to take a picture of the moulding so that you can easily mimic the design on the other side of the door and create a seamless look. Smear wood glue onto the back of the pieces of moulding and attach them to the door where you want them to be.

Paint the Door

Paint the door with a beautiful color that you will enjoy seeing every day. The moulding will be a different color than the door so you will need to paint or stain it to create a uniform look.

Hang the Door

Attach a door hinge on the new door in the exact same place the hinge is located on the door you are removing. Remove the screws from the hinges that are attached to the frame of the door and remove the old door. Align the new hinges to the same place the old hinges were located and secure them with screws. The door should now be able to open and close with ease.

Once the door is hung, you should be able to see a huge difference in the way your home looks. The process is easy to do and takes very little time to complete, making it a great weekend project to do.
